Lunigiana Region - Panigacci Making (2 pictures)
Panigacci is a traditional flatbread found in just a couple of villages in the Lunigiana. Here are pictures of how they're made, and information on where to find them in Italy.

Lunigiana Region - Bagnone (5 pictures)
Bagnone is one of the prettiest towns in the Lunigiana. The photo gallery is part of our Lunigiana Map and Travel Resources article.

Lunigiana in Autumn (3 pictures)
The Lunigiana has some of Italy's most spectacular scenery, but the late fall fogs, filtered light, and fall foliage makes late autumn a wonderful time to visit.

Milan (Milano) Classic Alfa Romeos on Exhibit (2 pictures)
Every once in a while the folks at the Alfa Romeo Museum take the cars out for a spin ending in a scenic spot for a photo op.

Narni (Ancient Narnia) (4 Pictures)
Narni is an interesting hilltown in Italy's Umbria region. Walk a little ways out of town to visit the Ponte Cardona, a Roman bridge that's part of an old aquaduct, very near the benchmark for the exact geographical center of Italy. See our Narni Travel Essentials for more.

Ocriculum -Roman Ruins near Narni (4 Pictures)
The ruins are seldom visited, but offer the visitor solitude and fabulous views of the surrounding countryside. Near enough to Narni for the avid fan to walk, but easily done in a car from Narni or Terni.

Orgosolo Sardinia Murals (14 pictures)
Over the past 30 years, Orgosolo has become a focal point for murals with a political bite, and have branched into murals that show scenes from the disappearing lifestyle of Sardinia's mountain shepherds. For more, see: Orgosolo and the Sardinian Mural Tradition.

Orvieto - City Gate and Duomo (4 pictures)
Orvieto, about an hour north of Rome on the train line, is home to an amazing cathederal (duomo), has a robust wine industry producing Orvieto Classico white wine, and is an interesting hill town to visit. The train station is on low ground, but you can take a hotel there and take the funiculare up to the old town. Beware that I've been there twice and both times there has been a strike of funiculare personel, so watch for signs stating "sciopero", the Italian word for strike, or for signs of me, whichever you think causes this phenomenon. For quick info on the duomo, see: Orvieto Duomo Cheat Sheet.

Orvieto - Etruscan Tombs (4 pictures)
Just below the top of the hill Orvieto is built on, you will find some amazingly preserved Etruscan tombs.

Ostia Antica (12 Pictures)
The ancient port of Rome, Ostia is smaller and more accessable than Pompeii or Herculineum. Plus, it's a port town, not a vacation paradise for the rich, and so it features shops and apartment buildings. For more information on Visiting Ostia, see our Ostia Antica links.

Padua (8 pictures)
An interesting city, full of art and interesting things to see, including Europe's oldest botanical garden. Part of our Padua Italy Quick Guide.

Padua's Botanical Gardens (Orto Botanico) (7 pictures)
The oldest botanical garden in Europe, featuring a number of interesting collections, including carniverous plants. See also our articleon the gardens.

Panicale (7 pictures)
A lively town in Umbria on the Tuscany border with good options for a longer stay. The pictures are part of our Wild Times in Panicale visitor guide.

Pisa - Piazza dei Miracoli (3 pictures)
Here are photos of the famous bell tower, Duomo, and Babtistry.

Pompeii (20 pictures)
20 photos of ancient Pompeii, part of our Visitors Guide to Ancient Pompeii.

Rome - Appian Way (3 pictures)
Tombs, churches, catacombs, monuments, and a fine restaurant named after one of the tomb owners make this one of our Great Walks of Europe.

Rome - Baths of Caracalla (6 pictures)
The ruins are quite impressive in their size, but not all that much remains. Still, the spires of wall and half-domes that jut skyward often make evocative pictures.

Rome - The Colosseum (5 pictures)
The interior of the Colosseum is currently undergoing renovation. Almost 3 million visitors a year are wearing it out fast. The annotations will give you some interesting facts about the Colosseum, or Amphitheatrum Flaviumas the Romans might have called it.

Rome - The Forum (4 pictures)
It's an impressive place, even though totally ruined. The pictures include one taken at night, when people come out to see the ruins after dinner.

Rome - Roman Temples (4 pictures)
Three Roman Temples and an arch thrown in for good measure. What separates these three temples from most of the others that you'll hear about is that they are all pretty complete, usually because they were taken over as churches by early Christians.

Rome - Trevi Fountain (1 picture)
Here's the famous fountain you come across on a pedestrian street, one of those grand surprises that sneak up upon you when you're walking Rome.
